This months issue is dedicated to "Vives sur les toits" which translates to "Live on the roof". The issue has a number of great rooftop spaces as well a great diagram with "the modular man" inhabiting each. The hanging garden lives.

C3 was established in 1984 profiling architecture, landscape and urbanism. Its worth tracking down sometime.

A collaboration between Architect Gerard Damiani and Artist Jeremy Boyle is profiled in the recently released Small Scale: Creative Solutions for Better City Living by Princeton Architectural Press.

A quote from Princeton Architectural Press:

“We found the dialogue between the old industrial shell and the new home to be both compelling and highly resolved. Consistent and restrained use of materials reinforced the all-over design ideas. Use of light and space was original and exciting. Also, we found there to be a seamless integration of the interior and exterior that energized a courtyard type & urban site."

Work has commenced on the new home for Sota Construction Services. This building will be the regions first straw bale office building. Other environmental features will include items such as geothermal “heating and cooling”, dehumidification, hydroscopic building materials, natural earthen wall finishes, repurposed building materials, daylighting strategies, living roof and stacked ventilation.

" We appreciated the way the architect mirrored the scale of the street, but introduced a very contemporary building- it is a very approachable project. The house does an excellent job of addressing the street and is responsible to the backyard as well. The architect was skillful in getting light into all the spaces even though this is a tight restricted site. The quality of the detailing of the materials is impressive. The project used a beautiful, elegant, and simple palette of materials and reduced them down to the essence of their beauty."

studio d'ARC is proud to be a recipient of a 2008 AIA national housing award in the “One/Two Family Custom Housing” category for our Live/ Work Studio II. The AIA award program profiles what the American Institute of Architects believes is the best built residential works in the US. We are flattered to be one of the nineteen selected this year (one of eight in our category). The Live/ Work Studio II is the first locally designed and constructed home to receive this award at a national level. The award will be given at the national convention in Boston this May.
